Best Ways Of Removing Mascara

Tips To Remove Mascara Without Damaging Your Eyelashes

Not only do a few coats of the glossiest black mascara add volume to your lashes, but it also makes your eyes the feature on your face. Though we love mascara, sometimes removing it is more complex than anticipated. You may think all the product is gone after scrubbing multiple times, yet you wake up with evidence remaining under your eyes.

If you’re looking to remove your mascara without ruining your lashes or losing all hope, this guide is for you.

3 Best Ways To Remove Mascara

Before we give you our three favorite ways to take off mascara, let’s go over a couple of basics that apply no matter which method you end up using.

  1. Be Gentle – Given that the skin around your eyes is thin and delicate, as well as your lashes, you must be gentle while removing mascara. Though it can be tough to remove sometimes, avoid rubbing, pulling, and scrubbing; it isn’t necessary and will only cause damage like dryness and redness in the area.
  2. Keep Your Eyes Closed – Many mascaras have ingredients that are actually poisonous for your eyes. 100% Pure’s mascaras contain only natural ingredients, so you don’t have to worry about them harming your delicate eyes. However, it is always best practice to keep your eyes closed while removing any makeup, including our own mascara! Even the purest products can end up irritating your eyes, causing discomfort. So make sure to close each eye individually while taking off your mascara.
  3. Wipe In The Direction Of The Lashes – Try using a cotton pad. Later, we’ll discuss why you should use a cotton pad to remove your mascara. For now, just know that when using the cotton pad, you should wipe it downward in the direction of your lashes. Wiping upward can cause damage and even lash loss.

Now that you understand the essentials, let’s move on to mascara removal. Out of all methods, these three are the best.

Method #1 – Gentle Makeup Remover Wipes

After a long day, sometimes all we want is to quickly remove our makeup and go to bed. Makeup wipes are perfect for this – just wiping away the day’s grime. But some ingredients in these convenient little packets may not be so great for your skin health.

Some preservatives are necessary to extend shelf life—and some of those chemicals can be damaging to your well-being. Formaldehyde, for instance, is a carcinogen frequently found in such preservative agents.

Also, makeup remover wipes also contain an emulsifier. By including this, it prevents the oil cleanser and water from separating. However, emulsifiers can sometimes be harsh on your skin, so use them with caution.

The Vitamin Cleanse Wipes are different from most others on the market in that they’re crafted from 100% biodegradable and compostable unbleached bamboo, they’re perfect for even sensitive skin, and can even be planted after use.

You can use them dry like a traditional wipe would be used, or you can wet them before using. No matter how you employ these facial cleansing cloths, they will safely and effectively remove mascara from your lashes without harming delicate skin or exposing you to any toxic chemicals in the process.

Method #2 – Cotton Pads and Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is an excellent makeup remover and cleanser. It contains healthy fats, acids, and nutrients that help nourish your skin. Coconut oil is also a natural solvent that won’t irritate your skin or expose it to harsh chemicals.

The Blood Orange Cleansing Balm from 100% Pure is one of our favorite ways to remove mascara because it can melt away even the toughest formulas without irritating your skin.

The quality of the coconut oil definitely matters. Not all coconut oils are extracted in the same way, and the best ones are raw, unrefined, and cold centrifuged.

Pro tip: You can also use Blood Orange Cleansing Balm on your lids and brows (or really anywhere else) to remove makeup.

Method #3 – Cleansing Oil

A cleansing oil is a great solution for removing your makeup, especially if you have dry skin around your eyes.

Cleansing oils work by breaking down the makeup on your lashes and sliding it off, similar to how coconut oil works.

However, make sure that the cleansing oil you choose does not contain mineral oil. Mineral oil is bad for your skin because it is derived from petroleum products.

Our Sweet Almond Gentle Shower Oil is more than just an oil for your skin – it’s a multitasker that can help you achieve a natural, radiant look. Made with only the cleanest organic ingredients and botanicals, our oil works with your skin to give it a healthier appearance. Use it to remove tough mascara from your lashes.

Mistakes to Avoid with Mascara

Just as there are tried-and-true methods for removing your mascara, there are some equally important rules to follow about the products you use. Here’s what to avoid.

  • 1. Cotton balls – It’s best to steer clear of cotton balls when taking off your mascara. The tiny pieces of cotton can get caught in your lashes and end up irritating your eyes. Cotton or rayon pads work better because they have more surface area and can remove more makeup at once.
  • 2. Products that are petroleum-based – Petroleum-based products such as mineral oil and baby oil are not recommended for removing mascara. These ingredients have been known to sensitize the skin, and they leave a film on the lashes that can accumulate over time.
  • 3. Products that are alcohol based – Alcohol is not only drying, but it is also bad for your lashes and skin. Using alcohol-based products on your lashes can make them brittle and cause them to fall out prematurely. Additionally, the surrounding skin will dry out, as it is thinner and more delicate than the rest of your skin.
  • 4. Products that are Synthetic fragrance-based – There‘s no need for synthetic fragrances near your eyes–or anywhere on your skin, for that matter. Even essential oils can irritate sensitive skin and cause long-term dryness and premature aging. Another issue with synthetic fragrance is that it’s usually proprietary information. In other words, you won’t know what you’re getting if a product just lists “fragrance” on the label.

How To Remove Mascara And Not Damage Your Lashes?

Established methods for removing mascara can be difficult to execute effectively, often resulting in damaged or dried-out lashes. We compiled a step-by-step guide with tips on how to use various products – from makeup remover wipes to coconut cream and cleansing oils – to remove your mascara quickly and easily, without any damage.

#Step 1 – To avoid having to use your skin cleanser more than once, remove your mascara first.

#Step 2 – If you’re using a cotton pad with cleansing oil or coconut cream, soak it in warm water until the pad is completely saturated. You can also soak a makeup remover wipe, but these usually don’t require water since they already contain coconut oil and can remove some mascaras on their own.

#Step 3 – Apply your product (cream or oil) to the cotton pad, and then apply it to your lashes.

#Step 4 – Apply your mascara remover to a cotton pad and gently wipe down along your lashes in the direction away from your eye.

#Step 5 – Use a gentle cleanser to remove any leftover makeup, and be sure to cleanse away all of your mascara and mascara remover.

Tugging or pulling on your lashes will make them weak and fall out eventually, so be as gentle as possible. Your patience will ultimately save your lashes.

Importance Of Removing Your Mascara

Understandably, it can be tempting to forgo removing your mascara at the end of the night. After all, who enjoys taking that extra step in their beauty routine? But what you may not realize is that leaving mascara on your lashes isn’t good for your eyes or lashes.

  • Thin Lashes: Wearing mascara for too long can weaken your lashes, making them more likely to break and resulting in thinner lashes.
  • Eye Irritation: It’s important to take your makeup off before bed, especially mascara. Mascara can flake and cause irritation if left on overnight.

In addition, have you recently checked the ingredients in your mascara? Parabens, coal tar dyes, and BHT‘s are a few of the harsh chemicals used to give you that volumized look. However, these same chemicals can damage your lashes and skin health.

Unlike other brands that contain harsh chemicals, 100% Pure mascaras only use clean and green ingredients. Our mascaras volumize and lift better than most traditional chemical-laden products on the market.

Conclusion

If you want to quickly and easily remove your mascara without harsh chemicals, 100% Pure has the products for you. The most crucial rule is to be gentle so that you don’t damage your lashes or delicate eye skin in the process. Slowly removing it will take a bit more time, but it’s worth it to preserve your beauty routine.
